Ferguson Enterprises Breaks Ground

excerpt from Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier 6/2/04

On Tuesday, June 1, 2004 officials from Ferguson Enterprises and the City of Waterloo, along with 200 members of the business community broke ground on the company's largest facility to date.

Local economic development officials liken Ferguson's corporate culture with the optimistic environment prevailing in the community.  Ferguson's motto "It's more than business, it's personal," said Joe Vich, chair of the Industrial and Commercial Development Committee of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance.  "In the Cedar Valley, it's more than just having a good community, more than just a good site and good infrastructure.  It's personal for us, too!"

Construction is under way on a $21 million, 608,800 square foot distribution center that will employ about 180 people with an annual payroll of $3.9 million.

As the company planned for expansion, it surveyed 80 sites in seven states.  "We chose Waterloo because of the community spirit and the business friendly environment." said Chip Hornsby, Chairman and CEO with Ferguson Enterprises.

"Site selection is a process we take pretty seriously," said Don Swain, Manager of Development with Ferguson.  "All things were right in Waterloo and in Iowa".

Ferguson Enterprises is the country's largest distributor of plumbing supplies with $5 billion in annual sales.  The company is a subsidiary of London-based Wolseley, the world's largest distributor of heating and plumbing products.
