Government Affairs

The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber is the One Voice for Cedar Valley business to work with local, state, and federal governments. The main focus of our Government Relations activity is economic growth and business climate improvement. Based on input from our investors, we establish a legislative agenda prior to the start of each Iowa legislative session. The Agenda contains specific actions that will improve the Cedar Valley business climate and quality of life, or address specific situations for business. Throughout the year, the Alliance & Chamber tracks and brings to your attention issues that have an impact on your bottom line.

Chair: Mike Mcrary, Lincoln Savings Bank                   Staff Rep: Steve Firman

Cedar Valley Legislative Agenda

The Cedar Valley Agenda for Economic Progress reflects the priority issues requiring action by the Iowa Legislature to advance the business and civic interests of the Cedar Valley economic area. An agenda is assembled annually by our Government Relations Committee, local economic development partners, and the staff of the Alliance & Chamber and is presented by our Board of Directors.
2018 Legislative Policy Agenda priorities include
  • Fill the talent gap to fuel economic growth
  • Create a competitive tax climate that encourages businesses of all sizes to invest in the Cedar Valley and Iowa and that will allow employees and risk-takers to keep more of their own money in their pockets
  • Economic development programs and incentives including tax credits are necessary to win in a globally competitive marketplace for economic development investments
  • High-quality, modern infrastructure is central to economic growth: meaning the Cedar Valley highways and streets, broadband, railroads, water, and sewer require long-term, reliable investment
