The Skilled Iowa Initiative launched in June 2012 by Iowa Work Force Development is addressing the skills gap on two fronts; by elevating the skills of those already in the workforce through skills certification and through internships for the unemployed. The six-county area represented by the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber was the first region in Iowa to sign on to the initiative.
Employers can benefit from being involved with Skilled Iowa by establishing the specific skill range needed to be successful in a particular position. This enhances the quality of job applicants, speeds the hiring process and increases the likelihood of long-term employment by successful candidates.
Why does the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber support Skilled Iowa?
- A “work ready” community benefits business.
- Greater talent breeds greater innovation.
Are you looking for new ways to market your talent to employers? The Skilled Iowa program promotes the NCRC exam which helps job seekers test their skills and earn certifications to make them more attractive to employers. Some employers are even posting positions with preferences for those with NCRC certificates. Want more information?
